Job Description
Position Overview The Radio Broadcaster will serve as the Voice of the Springfield Cardinals for all 138 home and road games, as well as any potential playoff games. In addition to delivering exciting, engaging and informative play-by-play for all radio broadcasts, the Radio Broadcaster will help promote the organization as a whole with promotional and ticket sales information during broadcasts. The Radio Broadcaster will also assist the production and communications departments with daily game notes, occasional voiceover work, potential speaking engagements and other duties as needed. As part of such a public-facing role, the Radio Broadcaster is expected to act in a professional manner at all times and be a consummate representative of the Springfield Cardinals at the ballpark and in the community.
Essential Responsibilities - Play-by-Play -- Provide exciting, engaging and informative play-by-play for all 138 home and road games broadcast live on Classic Rock 106.7 and MiLB.TV (home games). In addition to calling the action, the Radio Broadcaster will help tell the story of our season and promote the Springfield Cardinals brand/product overall with sales, promotional and event information incorporated into the broadcasts.
- Conduct Interviews -- Conduct live and recorded interviews with players, coaches, alumni and more. Additionally, perform live interviews with community partners before and/or during games to help spotlight our partners and add value to their sponsorships and/or group experiences.
- Additional Production Support - Assist the production department with voiceovers and live/recorded promotional shoots as needed.
- Additional Communications Support - Produce team Game Notes before all home and road games, and help with written game recaps for SpringfieldCardinals.com after road games.
- Other general Front Office duties - Includes helping with special events, set-up/tear down for events, pulling tarp when needed and all other general duties involved with working in a Minor League Front Office.
Job Qualifications Knowledge & Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong knowledge with the logistics of baseball including rules, scoring, terminology and more
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite and audio editing software
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of radio broadcast equipment
Education & Experience - Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcasting, Communications, or related field; or combination of years of experience and education
- 3+ years of experience broadcasting live professional and/or collegiate baseball
- 3+ years of experience producing game notes
- 3+ years of experience writing game recaps
