Job Description

The Workforce Group Team is currently seeking dependable and adaptable Debris Monitors to support our disaster response efforts, with a focus on marine debris monitoring. As a Debris Monitor, you will confirm debris eligibility by documenting the location and volume of debris collected. This role involves working in a variety of environments, including on waterways and aboard small to medium-sized boats. Candidates should be comfortable with aquatic settings and willing to work in challenging marine environments.

Location: Charlotte County and surrounding areas

Availability:

These are contract positions and, if activated, will likely require travel on short notice, generally lasting from several days to a few weeks and possibly 30 days or more, depending on the disaster response needs. Shifts may be up to 12 hours per day, 7 days a week.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Report to the designated area on time and wait for an assignment.
  • Monitor and observe all debris loading activities of trucks, bobcats, and front-end loaders, ensuring they are loading only storm-related debris from public rights-of-way or property.
  • Ensure Contractors collect all eligible debris and clear branches or other materials from roadways, waterways, and private driveways before moving on.
  • Fill out Load Tickets completely and accurately to document the debris volume.
  • Record and report any damages caused by a Contractor.
  • Conduct marine debris monitoring aboard small to medium-sized boats, verifying debris collection in waterways and coastal areas.
  • Remain courteous, respectful, and professional at all times with residents, Contractors, County or City officials, and fellow employees.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Valid car insurance and dependable vehicle preferred.
  • Ability to work 12-14-hour days, including potential work in aquatic environments.
  • Comfortable working on small to medium-sized boats in waterways and coastal areas.
  • Ability to climb staircases and ladders at least 10 feet.
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Possess a cellular phone and a portable charger.
